Questions Remain For Fire Station Closures

A plan for the fire service has gotten the stamp of approval, but City Council isn’t committing to carrying it out.

It recommends closing some stations, but Acting Fire Chief Greg Hankkio points out that would need them to do a lot of consideration and public consultation.

“And beyond that, there may be some other options that the consultants’ report hasn’t considered that we may be able to consider that are cost-effective,” Hankkio points out.

Consultant Darryl Culley with Emergency Management and Training Inc. says they have several options for closing stations, but didn’t give a concrete answer when Councillor Rebecca Johnson asked which path Council should take.

City Administration will come back on December 14 with a report on carrying out the fire service plan.
