Fire Ban Ends Saturday

Just in the time for the May long weekend, an outdoor fire ban is being lifted tomorrow morning.

The Restricted Fire Zone was implemented last month to ensure enough staff was in place to respond to a forest fire during the COVID-19 pandemic. Within the city, Thunder Bay Fire Rescue has lifted a city-wide fire ban, and all valid outdoor burning permits have been reinstated.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says it will continue to assess fire hazard conditions, and the Restricted Fire Zone may be reinstated in high risk areas.

To help stop the spread of the coronavirus, fire rangers will be required to follow the health and safety guidelines recommended by public health officials, such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, and daily self-assessments by staff.
