The Festival of India and Festival of Colour are back for another year, this time at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition grounds.
Organizer Dr. Prashant Jani says you can enjoy the celebration of East Indian culture while keeping your distance from others.
The eleventh annual festival is a drive-up event, which Dr. Jani says should allow up to 300 cars at one time with an empty parking spot between each vehicle.
Like in previous years, there will be music, dance performances and free vegetarian food.
The Festival of India gets started this afternoon at four o’clock and runs until seven o’clock. Entry is free but donations are accepted. Dr. Jani asks you to register online to give them an idea of how many people will be attending, because all food has to be packaged up to follow Health Unit rules around COVID-19.
Instead of the annual chariot parade, the festival will instead feature a car parade. Anyone can decorate their car with balloons and take part, starting at the Real Canadian Superstore Parking Lot at three o’clock and finishing at the CLE Grounds.
The Festival of Colours is tomorrow at four o’clock and runs until seven o’clock. They ask you to register online and the entry fee is $5.
Dr. Jani explains they’ve modified the colour throws, which are usually done in a crowd at Marina Park. This year, he explains, you can do the colour throws beside your car in the empty space that will be left between vehicles.
