Feds Ready To End Postal Dispute

The Trudeau government is one step closer to legislating an end to the postal dispute in Canada.

Labour Minister Patty Hajdu tells Acadia News she has given notice to the House of Commons that legislation is being prepared to stop the series of rotating strikes by members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

She says the soonest the legislation can be introduced will be Thursday but she is not certain how how it would take to become law.

While the labour minister is hoping for a negotiated end to the dispute, she indicates the government wants to make sure the mail is moving during this busy time of year.

Hajdu adds, “Canadians rely on Canada Post to send and receive packages right across the country” and that for small and medium sized businesses it is “sometimes the most profitable time of year for them.”
