As Canadians who were travelling abroad continue to return home to Canada, a Thunder Bay couple is happy to be back home in Thunder Bay.
Trish and James Finlay were initially to stay for 12-days at Borgo di Artimino, Tuscany, about half an hour out of Florence, Italy.
The couple had to cut their vacation short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They tell us that at first, the vacation was quite normal, but soon they noticed the streets became really quiet with their tour guide telling them that it’s not normally so serene.
The Finlays returned to Canada on March 14th and have spent one week in self-isolation so far.
James Finlay, who is 72-years-old, said they’ve been in contact with their family and friends via technology and it hasn’t been too bad.
“Most of the people our age are self-quarantining anyway,” Finlay says.
Finlay adds when they saw people in protective gear at airports it hit home how serious the situation was.
