There’s an increased need in the community and United Way is hoping you’ll be able to help them address the need.
The umbrella charity organization has created theCOVID-19 Community Response Fund, you can donate by clicking this LINK.
Chief Executive Officer Albert Brulé told Acadia Broadcasting’s John Ongaro there is a real increased need for charity services but fewer people that are able to donate.
“These agencies, not only are they losing income from programs that have been suspended, they may not be able to hold their fundraisers and they could be losing support from funders who have also had to scale back because of the current conditions,” Brulé said.
The fund will provide additional support for the work of frontline organizations striving to ensure that community members affected by the pandemic stay safe, healthy and have access to basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene products, shelter and crisis counselling.
Funds collected will stay in Thunder Bay and go directly to organizations requiring additional support to cope with increased demands for assistance.
The board of directors has also approved one time grants for United Way partner agencies from the existing Community Impact Fund.
