Emergency Crews Called To District Jail

Emergency crews were called to the Thunder Bay District Jail at 285 MacDougall Street, for what was described as a “small fire”. A spokesperson for Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue tells us there was a mattress fire in one of the cell blocks over the noon hour.

The fire was contained in one area and no one was taken outside of the jail for treatment.

An official with the Regional Health Sciences Centre tells us a Code Orange Alert was issued at 12:30 this afternoon. That indicates there is a possible external disaster but after the expected patients did not arrive, the alert was cleared half an hour later.

Thunder Bay police say it is nothing they were involved with.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
