Westfort’s councillor maintains it costs a minimum $100,000 to keep someone in jail over drug use and addiction.
At a recent ward meeting, Joe Virdiramo touted prevention with supervised injection sites, instead of jail.
He adds there’s too much misinformation in the public realm, with those addicted to drugs needing our help.
The Drug Strategy group spoke of the injections sites.
Also discussed at the meeting, the city’s rat problem.
Virdiramo heard from a number of residents who believe the two bag garbage limit is not helping, as they say many people dump garbage anywhere, including laneways, and that brings out the rats.
The councillor says he’s looked into what other cities have done, with the result being an education component instructing people of proper garbage disposal, to prevent rats from being attracted.
