The District Health Unit warns you not to get overconfident about lower case numbers in the Thunder Bay area.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille acknowledges we currently have around half of the district’s all-time high for active cases. That figure was over 100 for much of December.
However, she says that time period showed that our case numbers can change very quickly.
“This is very much not the time to be letting down our guard with the measures that we have in place, even though we’ve been able to drop our case numbers a little bit,” she says.
There were 49 active cases as of Friday.
“I have an overall sense of nervousness about how things are going to go going forward, because even though we’ve seen that improvement, we’ve also seen significant increases in various areas across the province, including other Northern health units,” Dr. DeMille adds.
The province hit an all-time high on Friday with over 4,200 new cases in a single day.
