Ottawa is providing $100,000 in funding over two years to Lakehead University towards two projects to battle pollution on Lake Superior.
The initiatives are designed to coordinate planning of remedial action plans and engage the public, Indigenous Peoples and stakeholders in the Thunder Bay and Peninsula Harbour areas which are considered pollution hot-spots on the big lake.
Meantime a modest amount of money is going towards a project affecting the mouth of the Current River.
The Great Lakes Protection Initiative grant is worth $7,000 over one year towards the work.
It is designed to protect and restore coastal habitat at the location which is also considered a Lake Superior hot-spot for pollution.
