Councillor To Oppose Truck Route

One city councillor doesn’t want the Designated Truck Route by-law to be approved tonight.

Rebecca Johnson says she wants the by-law that lays out the rules for the route postponed until the highway has better infrastructure like cross-overs.

“I don’t want to put the community in an unsafe position, as well as the drivers, I mean, it’s an accident waiting to happen, if we go and continue with what we have right now.”

The councillor notes the city has already decided to move ahead with the truck route, which will stop transport trucks from using Dawson Road and Arthur Street, to using the 11/17 instead.

“I do not think that the by-law should be put into affect until we have infrastructure in the community and surrounding areas, that can accommodate the trucks that are going through our community.”
