The city and police are going 50/50 on a new radio system consultant.
Councilors approved to spend $50,000 on the hire, with police paying the other half, as the consultant comes with a price tag of $100,000.
Police Chief J.P Levesque says they require some outside expertise before replacing equipment. Thunder Bay police and fire service say their radios are quickly becoming out of date.
Meanwhile, councilors are tasking city administration to determine the community’s capacity to both bid and host the 2021 Canada Games.
A report looking at the feasibility of it all, as well as assessing our sporting venues and infrastructure, is due back in early 2016.
Finally, more student housing could be coming to the area.
A proposal to rezone 631 Fulton Boulevard to allow the construction of three buildings, with a total of 44 units, was approved in principal at last night’s council meeting.
The developer says the intention is to rent to students.
