Council, Get it together – Foulds / Ongaro Oct 8

What a night it was….

To say that last night’s city council meeting was action packed would be an understatement. We added to council’s greatest hits with clips about the font on a report being different, how we should consider Canada Geese a food source (again) twice, and that maybe we should make recreation trails that don’t join together and then wait for money to join them later.

That’s only half of it.

Last night’s meeting was a disaster on so many levels. The Tennis Club got left out in the cold in a way by being taken out of the planning for the indoor turf facility (sort of), and the Designated Truck Route was the biggest topic on the agenda that got deferred, again, this time over a conflict of interest claim from one Councillor over another. There were arguments of process, a Councillor calling out the deputy city clerk for an error that wasn’t hers, several points of order between colleagues and more. To say it was a disaster would be another understatement.

The fact is, we voted for change, and change we got. Although I appreciate that this is a ‘new’ council, with ‘new’ members, a year later the ‘new’ excuse doesn’t fly with me. They should know the process of council better, they should read their packages more before each meeting so there is less talking in circles and questions that have been answered countless times. It was tough to watch. It was frustrating, and at the same time concerning. What are we in for? There are 3 years left. Bottom line – this group needs to get it together. Focus. Make decisions and move forward. Just like they all promised.

Councillor Andrew Foulds joined us again this morning. Things got a little heated – but it shows the frustrations that came to light after the meeting that was…. Have a listen…
