Council Approves Pay Hikes For Next Term

Salaries for the next Mayor and City Council have gone up.

Council agreed to increase the pay for the next Councillors to around $30,000, while the mayor who’s elected this year will get about $99,000.

They heard in last night’s presentation that the increases are meant to keep their salaries closer to the average for Thunder Bay, to reflect the fact that not everyone gets regular pay hikes.

The increase includes another $1,890 for Councillors and $5,600 for the Mayor, which a report to Council explains was calculated at half the rate of inflation over the last 10 years. (File Photo)
