No consensus among staff within Lakehead Public Schools when it comes to reducing many COVID-19 requirements after March Break.
Both Lakehead Public Schools and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board have shared their updated rules for staff and students when classes resume Monday, March 21st.
“There are plenty of teachers that are happy to not have to be teaching in masks moving forward, and there are others with some significant and legitimate health concerns, so this is really a polarizing move (by the province),” said President Mike Judge of the local branch of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.
Judge added many of his members feel that Friday, April 1st would’ve been a better date for a number of reasons.
“This way our (COVID-19) numbers could get closer to where other parts of the province are,” Judge mentioned. “We’re still not at the point where we can be opening classroom windows to get the extra ventilation because of Mother Nature. On the other hand, there are members that are thrilled that they no longer have to wear a mask while teaching.”
