Confederation College partners with St. Joseph’s to train care staff

Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) working with St. Joseph’s Care Group are gaining the opportunity to pursue a Diploma in Registered Practical Nursing with the support of their employer.

A new program at Confederation College will offer classes onsite at St. Joseph’s Hogarth Riverview Manor, allowing employees to work and study under the same roof.

PSWs and IENs pursuing the new diploma will have their educational costs covered by St. Joseph’s.

St. Joseph’s Vice President of People and Mission Adam Shaen praised care group’s staff in a statement, saying that “creating opportunities for career growth while supporting them in the workplace helps strengthen our teams and build a more sustainable healthcare workforce for the future.”

The first cohort of long-term care employees to enter this new program will begin their classes in June.

Confederation College President Michelle Salo describes the new partnership with St. Joseph’s as a way to help “create accessible pathways for healthcare professionals to advance their careers while continuing to serve our community.”
