Concern Over Remote Schooling And Mental Health

There is concern over what remote learning has been doing to students.

Local teachers union official Mike Judge says the impact on their mental health is something that needs serious consideration.

“You only need to look at the stats released by the (Centers for Disease Control) and other groups about hospitalizations due to mental health concerns, suicides, etc by 13 to 17-year-olds,” says Judge.

He adds “In many cases, we are starting to see some of the side effects of all of this remote learning, and the lack of socialization opportunities is having. ”

Judge believes we need a return to outdoor activities, sports, and clubs because he feels “significant damage has been done.”

Students in Thunder Bay return to in-person learning on April 19th.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
