CLE Wants Sports Dome Property Cleaned By July

The Board of the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition is looking to hire someone to clean up the former Sports Dome property.

President Al Law tells us now that the City has ordered them to clean up the land, and that they’ve terminated the dome’s lease agreement, they can move forward.

“It could potentially cost us $150,000 to $200,000 in the end and you still just have an empty lot. You had a tenant who signed an agreement that you would remediate the site to its original state but there’s been no real interest in the party.”

Law hopes some of the clean up costs will be recouped from the insurance company and wants it done by the end of July. Another possible cost savings measure could be if the chosen clean up crew sells off the steel from the building to lower the total cost.

“It’s a situation as an Agriculture Society can we afford the clean up, no, but it’s in the public’s interest.”

Law adds that seagulls and pigeons are living in the dome’s remains not to mention other vermon. (Photo by Sheri Leviski-Kotyk)
