City Gathering Input On Chapples Park Soccer Project

City council will see a plan for an indoor soccer facility at Chapples Park in June, which is being put together by gathering community feedback.

Thunder Bay’s general manager of community services Kelly Robertson maintains hearing from people is important to make sure it’s done right, for everyone who’ll use the facility.

Robertson expects the work will give them a better idea of what type of facility community members want to see.

She explains they’re asking people about what it could be used for besides soccer, what tweaks they might need to make to the facility’s design, and other input to help shape the project.

Robertson added that they’ve also heard that vendors who might eventually set up shop at the facility want to hear more about details like economic benefits.

While the group Soccer Northwest is happy with the progress the city has made on the project, it’s frustrated with how slowly other levels of government are moving.

Soccer Northwest President Michael Veneziale maintains they’re aware of the potential pricetag, and believes the facility will make money. (File Photo)
