City Finalizes Strategic Plan

The city has made some more adjustments to its Strategic Plan and has now accepted the document that lays out the city’s priorities from now until 2022

It includes items like the proposed indoor turf facility, which drew some concern from Councillor Brian Hamilton who felt they were being too specific.

“I want to have achievable goals in here. I feel like if it’s going to be [in] our strategic plan, it should be to provide indoor turf sports, and that could happen [through] a lot of different avenues to get there,” Hamilton says.

Current River Councillor Andrew Foulds counters that he doesn’t “love” everything in the plan, but is still satisfied.

“I do see some of my priorities reflected in this strategic plan, and what I’m hoping is that everyone who had input does see some of their priorities reflected in this strategic plan,” Foulds notes.

The plan emphasizes growth as one of the city’s main goals, and makes mention of the waterfront art gallery alongside the indoor turf facility.

Councillor Aldo Ruberto was among those saying Council has spent enough time on the plan and shouldn’t tinker with it for any longer.

“It’s almost impossible to put every single detail in there,” Ruberto points out, “So I appreciate all the work that’s been done, but we don’t want to continue looking and tightening and word-smithing.”
