City Defers Decision To Make City Hall Bus Terminal Permanent

Council is bringing it back to the people before making city hall a permanent bus terminal.

Councillors were set to vote last night, but will now make the municipal building the southcore’s transit hub only after the city meets with people who live and work nearby.

While administration says they’ll continue to stand by firm beliefs that city hall is the best place for a southside transfer point, Councillor Aldo Ruberto says it’s more than just that. He says it’s only fair to wait until after formal discussions are had with residents, since the city said it had only casual conversations with those who raised concerns over security, air quality and noise.

Administration says consultations are not likely to wrap up before the end of April.

Like many councillors however, Andrew Foulds says while consulting with the public is a good thing, his mind is already made up that city hall is the ideal location. Ruberto says it’s not because he doesn’t like the location, but rather because the process wasn’t followed.
