The city is waiting to hear back on a proposal for a 40-bed mental health and addictions crisis centre.
Last night at City Council, Mayor Bill Mauro announced he’s consulted with local organizations and forwarded a document to the province detailing what our community needs.
The Thunder Bay Mental Health and Addictions Network says the district has only one crisis bed currently. The group of more than 20 mental health and addictions services is asking for 20 beds for withdrawal and another 20 for people in crisis.
Mauro says such a facility would go a long way towards relieving pressures on current mental health and addiction services, emergency shelters and homelessness
programs, and emergency or crisis services.
The letter and proposal were sent to Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Michael Tibollo, northwestern MPs and MPPs, Premier Doug Ford, Health Minister Christine Elliot, and Finance Minister Rod Phillips.
