Now that the money has been spent, and the gifts sit unwrapped under the tree, are you looking back at how much you spent on Christmas this year?
Thunder Bay Counselling’s Kristen Duhaime says once the bills come in after New Year you should examine them closely, “sit down and take an honest and impartial look at what their spending looks like. Add it all up, see what went where, and the intent isn’t to feel guilty about it, it’s just to know what went where.”
Thunder Bay Counselling suggests you also avoid comparing what others say they spend on the holidays to what your family does. She notes it can be hard not to try and keep up with the Joneses because it’s human nature to compare what others are flaunting on social media during the holidays.
Duhaime notes you can already start putting money aside this year for next year’s Christmas and holiday celebrations so you don’t find yourself in a financial bind in 2020.
