Custodial Staff & Others Ratify 3-Year Deal

The Lakehead District School Board has reached a three-year local agreement with the members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees.

CUPE represents the custodial, maintenance and cafeteria workers employed by Lakehead Public Schools.

The agreement was approved and ratified by the local members of CUPE on Saturday, December 21 and by the Lakehead District School Board Trustees on Wednesday, December 11.

“We are very pleased to have reached an equitable settlement with our CUPE employees,” says Ian MacRae, Director of Education. “CUPE members play vital roles in ensuring that our schools are clean and safe learning and working environments.”

CUPE President Rod McGee is also pleased that the Board and the bargaining unit were able to obtain an agreement.

“Our members are pleased that they will be entering the holiday season and a new year with a three-year agreement in place,” he said.
