Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) Chief of Police Darcy Fleury has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces (M.O.M.).
Each year, the Order of Merit appoints a new group of police officers from around the country to join its ranks.
The honour is given to police who demonstrate leadership, contribute to their communities, and serve in police forces over lifelong careers with merit or distinction.
Fleury has served as Chief of Police in Thunder Bay for just over three years, since 2023.
He took the top job after the former Chief Sylvie Hauth retired in a bout of controversy.
Prior to working in Thunder Bay, Fleury spent 36 years working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).
TBPS Board Chair Karen Machado congratulated Fleury in a statement, saying the chief “has an exemplary track record and well-earned reputation as a leader in policing.”
This year’s M.O.M. appointees received their investiture into the order by Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon on Thursday at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
