The Centre Francophone in Thunder Bay is in line to receive $700,000 in federal and provincial funds to help renovate and improve their building.
President Claudette Gleeson says they are excited about the opportunity.
“We’ve actually known for a while but we weren’t able to tell anyone because the government said to wait for the official announcement, but we were very pleased,” says Gleeson. “We’re going to be renovating our garage so we’ll be adding a second floor. We’ll be moving some offices from the front, enlarging our community hall, and fixing our roof.”
Gleeson goes on to say the funding is timed well as we get closer to a date where there are no capacity limits, and the entire community can enjoy the renovations in person.
“As restrictions are easing, we are excited to get back together with everyone in our community hall. Of course we haven’t really haven’t been able to use it for a while because of the restrictions.”
The group usually has a festival in September, though it has been cancelled due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
