Canada Sends Support To Fight BC Wildfires

Parks Canada will send help to British Columbia in the fight against raging wild fire.

A team of 23 is on route, which includes an Incident Commander and an Information Officer as well as experts in Operations, Plans, Logistics, and Finance.

The operation has been coordinated by the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Jonathan Wilkinson says this is a move that will keep people safe.

“These recent days have been a very harsh reminder that even as we fight climate change, we must also adapt to its effects,” explains Wilkinson. “The Government of Canada is pleased to be contributing 23 of Parks Canada’s highly trained wildland fire management specialists to assist in managing the wildfires occurring in British Columbia and Alberta. The important work they will be doing will help keep communities safe.”

British Columbia has seen devastating results of the fires, including the near total destruction of the village of Lytton.

Currently, the are more than 200 active forest fires in the province.
