Lakehead University’s Chancellor is announcing a generous gift to the school. Thunder Bay’s Derek Burney and his wife Joan are donating 150 thousand dollars to help set up the university’s Mining Centre of Excellence. Burney is hoping others in the private sector come through as well. He says university’s shouldn’t have to rely on governments alone for their funding, especially for research that is valuable for the community at large.
