A centre to help laid-off Bombardier and Alstom workers in Thunder Bay is once again opening its doors.
The Bombardier Labour Action Centre is welcoming back workers on Tuesday, August 3rd at its Gore Street office after having to offer its services virtually since last December.
The centre helps those who lost their jobs at the plant get support, look for work, connect with other services or get re-trained.
Coordinator Stephen Margarit says they’re happy to help people through the adjustment process, adding the pandemic has been challenging for people looking for re-training or new jobs.
“During these unprecedented times, we want to offer our services that best meet the needs of our clients, so we will continue to offer virtual services to those who are still not comfortable with in-person visits,” explains Margarit.
Margarit notes the centre is for all former Bombardier or Alstom workers and their families, not just those represented by UNIFOR or COPE.
It opened in late November of 2019, after the plant began layoffs that would total in the hundreds because of lack of work.
