Bikes: making friends, and creating lasting memories

Here’s a story that’ll make your heart grow three sizes today.

Let’s go to Moncton, New Brunswick:  a woman named Krista Richard has spent the last 14 years doing something pretty incredible — she collects old bikes, fixes them up, and gives them away for free through her program, Bikes and Trikes for Everyone.

What started as one small act of kindness has now helped thousands of kids get outside, make friends, and feel that pure summer freedom of cruising around the neighbourhood. This year, she even set a personal record — 88 bikes in one day. Last year, over 400 found new homes.

Krista says bikes don’t just entertain kids — they bring communities back together. And with more than 400 children still on the waiting list, the demand is huge.

But for her, it’s all worth it for those reactions. She remembers one little boy who hopped on his new bike and just kept riding past her saying, “You do good job, you do good job.”

And honestly… she really does.
