Bearskin Lake Residents Heading Home

Residents of Bearskin Lake First Nation are beginning to return home today.

About 150 were evacuated to Thunder Bay recently due to a flooding threat in the remote northern community located 425 kilometres north of Sioux Lookout.

The City of Thunder Bay tells us multiple flights are scheduled over the next few days to transfer the residents who have been here since November 14th.

Community leaders declared a state of emergency on November 10th due to an ice jam along the Severn River, which caused the flooding concerns.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
