Bearskin Lake Declares State Of Emergency

A State of Emergency has been declared at Bearskin Lake First Nation due to flooding.

Hundreds of residents have been affected as water level rises from ice blocking the Severn River.

Many are saying it’s the worst flooding they’ve seen in the area, with evacuation expected to start this afternoon.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Chief Alvin Fiddler has tweeted efforts are being made to ensure everyone’s safety.

Conservative MP Eric Melillo has reached out to Indigenous Affairs Minister Seamus O’Regan for federal government support.

Bearskin Lake is about 425km’s north of Sioux Lookout.
