Northwestern Ontario residents in need of bariatric surgery will no longer have to travel for the procedure.
The Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre launched its Bariatric Surgery Program, today.
Medical Director Dr. Asiru Abu-Bakare says the number of those who require the treatment is 20 per cent higher in the north.
He says it’s better to have them get the surgery in Thunder Bay then in the United States.
Previously, patients could wait up to 18 months for surgery. (File photo)
