It doesn’t happen often, but when it does…it’s worth a mention.
A high school girls basketball team in Oklahoma City has become a national symbol of integrity. Why? They gave up their own championship title. Last week, this particular basketball team won 44-43. Later that night, the head coach was re-watching the game and something didn’t feel right. His worst fear was confirmed. The scoreboard was off. The actual score was 43-42 for the other team.
By league rules, the score couldn’t be changed once the game was over. The win was official on paper! But, when head coach Brendan King told the team the next day, their response made him so proud! The entire team asked that their championship title be reversed, and awarded to the opposite team!
This was a powerful display of honesty and sportsmanship!
