A busy weekend for Ministry of Natural Resources wildland firefighters.
There were seven new blazes reported on Sunday, adding to the five starts dealt with on Saturday.
Fires were reported on Sunday, 20 kilometres southwest of McIntosh Bay, near North Spirit Lake First Nation, south of Crooked Pine Lake Road, near Sawmill Lake, south of Sioux Narrows, near Fickas Road, at the south end of Wabakimi Provincial Park, along Highway 17, south of Vermilion Bay, and west of Highway 527, on the southeast side of Smiley Lake.
On Saturday, blazes broke out near Silcox Lake, 30 km east of Pikangikum, 30 kilometres southwest of MacDowell Lake, near Rossport, south of Aroland and 25 km east of Cat Lake.
Most of the fires are small in size.
Two fires in the Red Lake District are being observed.
The fire near McIntosh Lake has burned over 700 hectares, while the one near Cat Lake is over 300 hectares.
The forest fire hazard is at high to extreme across northwestern Ontario.
