William B. Dackiw

November 3, 1934 – May 16, 2026

Mr. William Dackiw, age 91 years, passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

William was born November 3, 1934 to Stefan and Mary Dackiw, in Fort William, Ontario. He grew up attending local schools, then worked for various local industries, finally settling in with CNR in 1953, where he worked in car control, as a senior machine operator, and finally as a data supervisor, retiring in August of 1990 with 37 years of service.

Bill was a great outdoorsman, being an experienced trapper for over 50 years. He owned two cabins in the Graham area where he spent many years fishing and hunting. He was a jack-of-all trades; handy in home repairs and restructuring, as well as a green thumb gardener. William was strong in his convictions, took great pride in his home and cabins, and was a marevelous cook – many delicious barbeques, homemade soups, and especially Chinese dishes, were enjoyed through the years.

William is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Bernice (2020); step-son, Lorne Chabot (2023); parents, Mary (1983) and Stefan (1983).

Funeral Services for Mr. Dackiw will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Visitation will take place one hour prior. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Please note that due to construction, limited parking is available in our upper (Waverley St.) lot, however our lower (Park St.) lot remains fully accessible via Court St., with stair access to our facilities.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Williams memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
