It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charlize Candace Kate Kenequanash, age 24 years of North Caribou Lake First Nation. She passed away peacefully with family by her side in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Friday, May 8, 2026 at 10:13 EDT.
Charlize is survived by her daughter Joylene; grandparents Lucy Adams, Billy Thompson, Maggie and Henry Jeremiah; siblings Aaron Adams, Lavena Kenequanash (Darnell), Cody Kenequanash, Liam Kenequanash, Brianna Jeremiah and CJ Wapenisk; aunts and uncles Linda Chapman (Angus), Naomi Kanate (Colin), David Jeremiah, Ronald Jeremiah, Dwayne Jeremiah, Julie Kenequanash, Floyd Kenequanash (Connie), Jennifer Kenequanash (Brad), Candice Wesley (Chad) and Rachel Kanakakeesic as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and extended family.
She was predeceased by her dad, Charlie Jeremiah and mom, Charlene Kenequanash; sister Cherilyn Jeremiah; grandpa Zebulon Kenequanash; uncles John Jeremiah, Don Chikane, Calvin Chikane, aunts Marlene Quequish and Monica Kenequanash; her great grandparents, as well as her cousin Sydney Kenequanash.
Charlize was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, on April 13, 2002 to Charlie Jeremiah and Charlene Kenequanash. She attended school in Weagamow Lake and enjoyed working various jobs. She loved her community and exploring all it had to offer. Charlize also enjoyed being at home, cleaning, cooking and baking. Her greatest passion was her daughter, Joylene, whom she was so proud of. Spending time with family and friends was always something Charlize looked forward to, especially family cookouts and outings. She was the kind of person that would talk to you about anything or give a listening ear to those who needed it. Char was an outgoing person who had absolutely no filter.
Charlize will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but the memories we are left with will forever be cherished and held close in our hearts.
A Viewing Service for Charlize will be held in Thunder Bay on Monday, May 11, 2026 from 10:00am until 12:00pm in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James, officiated by Pastor Randall Crowe.
Charlize will then be transported home to North Caribou Lake First Nation. The Funeral Service will be held in the Weagamow Lake Evangelical Fellowship Church on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at 11:00am, officiated by Pastor Colin Kanate and Emceed by Gilbert Quequish. Burial will follow in the Weagamow Lake Community Cemetery. A Wake will be held on Tuesday evening in the Church.
