Kent Gerard Coughlin

February 1, 1959 – March 30, 2026

With great sadness, the children of Kent Gerard Coughlin announce his passing on Monday, March 30, 2026, after a hard-fought battle. He passed with his son by his side and his daughter on the phone, surrounded by love.

Kent was born on February 1, 1959, in the Toronto area, where he grew up in a large family with deep roots in the city.

He was a lifelong and devoted sports fan, especially of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Blue Jays. From a young age, he found his way into Maple Leaf Gardens any way he could, and later proudly attended games as often as possible. His passion for sports extended beyond hockey and baseball, he was always eager to watch a game and share his thoughts with anyone willing to listen.

Kent had a love for golf and spent many happy hours on the course. He was also known for his deep appreciation of music, often the first to name that tune. An avid reader, he always had a book nearby and enjoyed crosswords and live concerts.

After graduating high school, Kent and his best friend Paul set out for British Columbia to begin a new chapter. Along the way, they stopped in Thunder Bay, where, through family connections, he found a place to call home. Kent began working at the grain elevators and remained there until his retirement in 2014 at the age of 55.

Kent leaves behind his loving daughter, Hailey (Nica), his cherished granddaughter, Jordyn, and his son, Luke. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members and friends.

He is survived by his siblings Della (Mike), Bill (Chris), Carrie, Holly (Dave), along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Marsha and Heather, and his brother Jimmy.

Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Kent will be remembered for his quick wit, his playful sense of humour, and his warm, generous heart. He had a way of making people smile, and that spirit will live on through the many memories he leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Dad. We love you and will miss you always.

— Hailey and Luke
