Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder

In Loving Memory of Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder

Leanne Susan Isabelle Calder, age 71, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away suddenly on March 11, 2026. Born on February 7, 1955, in Fort Frances, Ontario, Leanne  lived a life filled with creativity, compassion, and a deep spiritual connection to the world around her. She will be remembered as a warm, generous soul whose presence brought comfort and kindness to many.

Leanne was born to Gordon Calder and Jackie Garriock and spent her early years in Northwestern Ontario. From a young age she showed a caring nature and an imaginative spirit that would remain with her throughout her life.

Throughout her career, Leanne worked as a legal clinic assistant, where she helped many people navigate difficult circumstances with patience and empathy. Later, she also found joy in working as a professional organizer, helping others bring order and peace into their homes and lives. She had a natural gift for seeing beauty and possibility where others might not.

Leanne was a deeply spiritual person, someone who viewed life through a thoughtful and reflective lens. Those who knew her well often described her as delightfully eccentric in the most wonderful way—someone who embraced individuality and lived life with authenticity.

Creativity was one of Leanne’s greatest passions. She loved crafting and had a special talent for crocheting beautiful blankets and dish cloths. Each piece she created was made with care and love, often given as gifts to family and friends. These handmade items will remain treasured keepsakes and lasting reminders of her generous heart.

More than anything, Leanne was known for her giving and loving nature. She had a warm presence that made people feel welcomed, understood, and valued. Whether through conversation, thoughtful advice, or a handmade gift, she had a way of making others feel special.

Leanne is lovingly remembered by her daughters Treena (Warren) Smith and Amanda Burns; and her cherished grandchildren Nathan Kruskowski and Holden Pintwala, who brought her great joy and pride.

Predeceased by past husband Phil Burns; father Gordon (Charlotte) Calder; mother Jackie Garriock (Bill); brothers Vincent, Kevin, Kelly; and sister Carla Stewart.

She will also be deeply missed by her siblings and extended family: Roz (Artie), Pamela (Patrick) Colfer, John (Robyn), Charlene, and Valley (Missy), along with many nieces, nephews, and friends whose lives she touched.

Leanne leaves behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and generosity. Her warmth, spiritual outlook, and unique spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A celebration of Leanne’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to remember and honour the beautiful life she lived.

Though she is gone from this world, Leanne ‘s love, handmade treasures, and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

A Poem in Her Memory

Perhaps they are not stars in the sky,

but rather openings where our loved ones shine down

to let us know they are happy.
