July 19, 1941 – January 11, 2026
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Charles John Mintenko on January 11th, 2026, “Sister’s birthday” at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Charlie was born on July 19, 1941 and was raised in Slate River Valley. He worked for Westmount Hogarth as a porter until his retirement 30 years ago. He was one of the founding members of the Oliver Paipoonge Volunteer Fire Department and he was an active member of St. Marks Anglican Church.
Charlie was never idle at home. He was a well known figure in the community, you could find him curling, golfing, disking, snowmobiling, at the racetrack -selling the merch at the CRT stand, or at the local hockey rinks supporting the Thunderwolves, North Stars, and the Walleye.
Charlie had a personality that no one would ever forget. If you met him once, you were friends for life. He lived his life to the absolute fullest. A true gentleman, kind, generous and would give you the shirt off his back.
He was very humble man who fiercely loved his family. Uncle Charlie never missed family time: suppers, football, racing, soccer, hockey, graduations, baseball – he was always there to cheer us on.
Missing out on his social life this last year was hard as Uncle Charlie battled cancer. We would like to thank all of his friends for the love and support that he felt every day. Thank you to Lakehead Nurse Practitioners Carolan and Stacey, the Cancer Centre, Bayshore especially Julius, 2C TBRHSC, 2South and 2North at St. Joseph’s Hospital especially Noah for their care and compassion.
Survived by “sister” Charlene Reed. His nieces and nephew: Tracy, Michele, Greg and Rachel. Great niece and nephews: Christina and Jacob Dean, Drake and Kolby Reed. Uncle Donald MacGregor, Aunt Audrey Mintenko and many cousins. Predeceased by his parents; George and Christina (Gertie) Mintenko. Brother- in- Law; Melven Reed.
Charlie had a shining golden heart just like the Werthers candy wrapper, which he would “sneakily” give to you from his pocket whenever you would see him. It is hard to forget someone who has given us so much to remember.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 18th at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, 5 St. Mark’s Street,
Rosslyn, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 19th at St. Mark’s Anglican Church at 1:00pm. Donations to Rural Cupboard would be greatly appreciated.
We love you Uncle Charlie!
