Olga Culbert

With great sadness, we share that Olga Marion Culbert passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, at the age of 90. Born on November 20, 1934, in Canora, Saskatchewan, Olga’s life was a testament to love, service, and family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Olga pursued her passion for helping others by enrolling in the Port Arthur General Hospital School of Nursing, from which she graduated in 1956. She spent most of her nursing career working at Dawson Court in Thunder Bay until her retirement in the late 1990s.

Outside of her professional life, Olga participated in the General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumni events, was a member of the Canadian Women’s League at Corpus Christi Church, and volunteered with various organizations.

Family was the cornerstone of Olga’s world. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Leslie Culbert; her sons, Terry (Carolyn Lehto) and Brad; and her daughter, Leslie (Paul Malcolm). She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Dawn (Dave); and her grandchildren, Kelsey and Colton Culbert, and Shae Malcolm (Steve Borysiewicz). Olga’s extended family includes her sister-in-law, Zelda Stentiford; her brothers-in-law, Gordon and Lorne Culbert; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Anne and Tony Gogol; and her son, Dean Culbert (Dawn); as well as numerous other relatives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and healthcare providers at the Hospice and Palliative Care unit of St. Joseph’s Care Group, as well as those at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre (TBRHSC), for their compassionate care of Olga throughout her journey. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the family members and friends who visited and called Olga during her final days.

As we bid farewell to Olga, we celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the countless lives she touched. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

Donations can be made to the General Hospital of Port Arthur School of Nursing Alumnae (1909- 1970) Cardiology Endowment Fund in care of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre; Renal Services, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre; or to a charity of your choice.

In accordance with Olga’s wishes, the immediate family will gather at St. Andrew’s Cemetery to inter her ashes at her parents’ grave site.
