TBDSSAB heading to Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference

The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Administration Board (TBDSSAB) is sending representatives to attend the Association of Municipalities of Ontario Conference taking place in Ottawa.

The annual conference is an opportunity for municipalities to work together on solutions to challenges facing all Ontarians, and to create new opportunities that benefit communities.

During the event, there will also be meetings with provincial ministries.

TBDSSAB has meetings scheduled with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of the Attorney General.

“Our relationship with the province is an important one. The TBDSSAB is the delivery agent for critical provincial programs like Ontario Works, social housing and childcare,” explained TBDSSAB Chair Brian Hamilton.

“The AMO Conference provides an opportunity to meet directly with Ministries to explain the impacts of their funding decisions and advocate for district-focused policies that strengthen systems and improve outcomes for the people we serve.”

Overall, the organization is looking to advocate for the following topics:

  • Child care workforce development
  • Expanding new housing development through COCHI and OPHI investments
  • Addressing challenges faced by community housing providers in LTB application processes
  • Keeping community housing safe through a two-year community policing pilot project
  • Developing more supportive housing

The event is running from August 17 to 20.
