Area Gravel Pit Closer To Reality

The head of an area planning board suggests the board had no choice but to approve the proposed Trout Lake gravel pit.

Lucy Kloosterhuis explains the pit meets all planning guidelines and opponents to the project have to take their concerns to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The ministry still has the final say on whether to grant the company involved, Lempiala Sand & Gravel, a licence to operate.

She says the board understands the opponents concerns, but it’s “unfortunate their concerns are all operational” and the board doesn’t “have the authority to address those.”

Opponents of the gravel pit will be able to appeal the board’s ruling. (File photo)
