Firefighters Emphasizing Fireworks Safety

Some important reminders when it comes to lighting fireworks for Canada Day.

Thunder Bay’s fire prevention officer Anthony Stokaluk tells us if you plan on making some loud noise tonight, it must be on private property.

“You can only let off fireworks on property that you own, or have permission to be on,” Stokaluk points out. “You can’t go to a school yard, you can’t go to a park to let off fireworks.”

Stokaluk adds to make sure one adult is responsible for the fireworks, and that they haven’t been drinking or otherwise impaired.

That person sohuld also pay attention to instructions that come with the fireworks, including burying fireworks halfway in the ground for security before lighting them.

Stokaluk tells us a noise by-law dictates fireworks cannot be lit between 11pm and 7am.
