Annual Hike for Hospice still accepting registrations

The 14th annual Hike For Hospice event is set to take place, and registration remains open.

The event is taking place on Sunday at Boulevard Lake.

The theme for the Hike is We Hike Because… How We Die Matters.

The event is significant for Hospice Northwest, offering an opportunity to not only raise funds, but also to raise awareness about the importance of caregiver, palliative and grief services.

This year’s event is kicking off with a short opening ceremony.

Fresh persians, fruit and coffee will be available, as well as entertainment, a 50/50 draw, a silent auction, and more.

A bagpiper will be leading participants on the walk around the lake.

As part of the memorial aspects of the hike, each participant will receive a fresh flower to release into the waters as a sign of remembrance, as well as a colourful ribbon to tie to the Butterfly Memorial Wall at the Adelaide Monarch Butterfly Garden.

A wind phone will also be available at the garden for those wishing to share a message with their loved ones.

For those who aren’t able to gather at Boulevard Lake, Hospice Northwest is also offering the opportunity to hike virtually between Friday and Sunday.

Participants are encouraged to walk in their neighbourhoods, at their camps, or any destination of their choice.

A special Hike for Hospice launch video will be available for all Hikers to watch on Friday morning on the Hospice Northwest Facebook page and website.

“Hospice Northwest helps our community through grief and bereavement, all without charging a single dime,” explained grief client and Hike Spokesperson, ML Petersen. “This shows how important events such as Hike for Hospice are, and how important any donations are; you truly can make a difference in someone’s life. Donations are crucial to these programs being offered to people in need, people like me, people just like you.”

This year’s goal is to raise over $50,000.

The action is getting underway at 10:30 a.m. at the Boulevard Lake children’s playground.

Anyone interested in getting involved can register by clicking here, or by visiting the Hospice Northwest Office at 63 Carrie Street from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday or by calling 807-626-5573.
