Update: No buildings damaged in brush fires south of Thunder Bay Airport

No buildings were damaged after multiple brush fires broke out near Thunder Bay airport on Wednesday, thanks to a quick response from local and provincial fire crews.

The fires have now been classified as Thunder Bay Forest Fire Number Nine.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, the Oliver Paipoonge Fire Department and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) responded to the fires on Wednesday afternoon after receiving multiple reports of grass and brush fires along the rail line extending from the Thunder Bay Airport area to beyond Twin City Crossroads.

According to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, the fires were extinguished after a five-hour fight against the flames.

The fire received aerial suppression support from CL415 waterbombers.

The MNR has upgraded the size of the fire to seven hectares, but it has moved from not under control to being held.
