An apartment building fire brought firefighters to North McKellar Street.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue arrived around 10:30 this morning to find heavy smoke coming from an apartment on the upper floor.
They ordered a second alarm to bring more crews to the scene, but quickly extinguished the flames.
Fire crews determined the fire was started accidentally, and it extensively damaged the apartment.
They remind residents that working smoke detectors save lives.
