The Thunder Bay area is still dealing with high heat and heavy smoke in the air from forest fires.
Environment Canada has put the southern parts of the region under heat warnings and special air quality statements.
Steven Flisfeder, a warning preparedness meteorologist with Environment Canada, indicates we should have more normal temperatures for the rest of the week.
He points out that while temperatures are slightly cooler near Lake Superior, the Thunder Bay area is expecting a high in the low 30s Monday.
“But tonight, we should be seeing temperatures dipping into the mid-teens, which should be the end of the heat event,” he says.
Flisfeder says it’s not certain when Environment Canada will be able to lift the weather alert for poor air quality. There were 101 forest fires burning in the Northwest as of Sunday night.
