Amanda Moddejonge continues her fight for money she feels she doesn’t owe.
The military veteran, who was hurt in 1998 while conducting a training exercise in Meaford, is being asked to re-pay $3,433.30 following a September 22nd ruling from the Service Canada’s Employment Insurance Commission.
The commission decided that Moddejonge received money she wasn’t entitled to through EI benefits while receiving Earnings Loss Benefit payments from Veterans Affairs.
“I have served the Attorney General of Canada with my memorandum of fact and law, so they currently have my complete applicant’s record,” said Moddejonge. “So what that means is I’m waiting for their response to come back to see what their actual position on this is and then from there it goes to trial.”
Moddejonge went onto say: “They could say ‘I do apologize, we’re going to withdraw’ and that would be the most advantageous for everybody because this is a very expensive process, it’s very unnecessary at this point, and Canadian tax dollars do not need to be paying for this.”
Acadia Broadcasting first told you about her story in November after she decided to file an appeal against the decision.
The commission declined to write off the disputed debt back on October 1, 2020.
