Daniel Debassige Loses Appeal

Daniel Debassige is denied his appeal against the second-degree murder conviction by the Ontario Court of Appeal.

The now 46-year-old was handed a life sentence in prison with no chance of parole for ten years in August 2017 for his role in the alcohol fueled beating of 62 year old Richard Spence in 2014.

Justice Danial Newton also gave 47-year-old Monica Spence a five year sentence as she was found guilty of manslaughter.

Debassige has been serving his sentence at a minimum security healing lodge in western Canada.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
